Happy Father’s Day! This year, let’s take a moment to celebrate the unique strength fathers bring to families, especially those facing an unexpected pregnancy.

Our Torah teaches us a beautiful truth: every person is a universe, a reflection of the divine with their own unique personality. Unlike coins, which are all stamped with the same image, we are created by G-d, carrying His image, with each of us having a different face (Sanhedrin 37a). The Talmud emphasizes this, stating, “just as no two faces are alike, so there are no two personalities that are alike. (Berachot 58a)” We each have our quirks and strengths.

Strength in Unity, Not Uniformity

This beautiful diversity extends to families. Couples come together with different backgrounds, personalities, and preferences. It’s these differences, sometimes magnified by an unexpected pregnancy, that can create challenges. Yet, within these challenges lies an incredible opportunity.

As a counselor at SHIFRA, I witness the joy of couples discovering how their differences become sources of strength. Imagine the first human’s declaration upon seeing his partner: “…Finally, this is it. Bone of my bone and flesh of flesh.. (Breishit 2:23)” This powerful image speaks to the profound unity that can be built, not from uniformity, but from embracing and celebrating each other’s unique gifts.
